Late fall is a good time for planting many trees and shrubs. For great fall foliage color, we recommend, “October Glory” Red Maple. For showy ornamental bark choose plants such as Paperbark Maple, Winter King Hawthorn or Redtwig and Yellowtwig Dogwood. |

Keep newly-seeded lawns moist by sprinkling lightly daily until grass becomes established. Mow new lawns as soon as they reach normal mowing height of 3”. Clean up fallen leaves so your lawn can breathe. |

Broadleaf evergreens (hollies, boxwoods, rhododendrons, etc.), often dry out in the fall and can suffer from winter burn throughout the winter months. Apply anti-dessicant in early winter to prevent winter burn. Woody shrubs and evergreens can be attacked by scale and insects too small to detect until it’s too late. Apply dormant oil in early winter and early spring to prevent damaging insect outbreaks. |

Be sure to have your irrigation system properly winterized to prevent damage from freezing temperatures during the winter months. |

The days are shorter; don’t forget to adjust the timer on your lighting system. Turn on the lights for early morning as well as early evening to late night to showcase your home and landscape. |
